Even on holiday, people are always online. For Switzerland Tourism, we created the interactive campaign ‘Holidays without the Internet’ as a counterpart to this, which — unintentionally — made international headlines.
If you log in to this interactive film via Facebook Connect, Sebi & Paul analyse your personal Facebook profile on their laptops:
They show how often you have been on Facebook recently or which pictures you have posted.
Depending on their online behaviour, the two recommend that users take a holiday without the Internet. And to take part in a prize draw to win a week’s holiday without internet in an Alpine hut without mobile phone reception.
Facebook stops campaign
As soon as it goes live, Facebook deactivates the app (we were not told why) and makes headlines. Apparently Facebook doesn’t want people to go on holiday without Facebook.
When the campaign is back online a week later (officially approved by Facebook), the interest of people and the media in the campaign is huge and the number of visitors shoots through the roof. The number of Switzerland Tourism’s followers on Facebook doubled within a month.
The campaign was honoured with the Grand Prix at Eurobest, among other awards.
